About
Danielle Trent grew up in Southern California and currently lives in Long Beach, CA. She received her BA in Drawing/Painting from California State University Long Beach. Her last year as an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Florence, Italy and attended Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. A few years later, she went back to CSULB for her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art. Danielle received her Masters of Fine Art from California University of the Arts.
The recent decade of the American political climate has made Danielle increasingly aware of the perceptions and pressures that are systemic in our society and perpetrated by the media. Her practice centers on research which manifests itself into various material forms with an interest in social critique, identity, technique, fibers, and process. Her work synthesizes abstraction and realism to produce works that respond to struggle, contradiction, and resilience yet remains grounded in representation even while pushing at its limits. Aware of how textiles and crafts historically address gender oppression, she confronts this concept by incorporating sewing, unstretched canvas, synthetic leather, embroidery, yarn, and lace, creating work that aspires to evolve perceptions and attitudes in a subtle way that draws your attention and dares you to view things differently.
Her work has been published and exhibited internationally, including Annual Art Exhibition and Competition, Scuola Lorenzo de Medici, Florence, Italy. Throughout galleries and exhibits in Los Angeles and Southern California like The Happening Gallery, Conception Arts, Art + Activism, SoCal MFA Annual Juried Exhibition, Imagine Entertainment, CAEA-South Annual Members’ Professional Show. Her work was shown in the Old Courthouse Arts Center in Woodstock, Illinois and Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia.
